Don’t… drink the Cancun tap water!
Stick to bottled water all day, every day… even when brushing your teeth. The water in this region (even in the resorts) is not filtered the way water at home is. Its safe to shower and wash your hands, but don’t let it get in your mouth.

Don’t… pay full price for souvenirs.
Haggling is allowed in souvenir shops and flea markets (there is a huge one in the Hotel Zone!) Bargain your way to a low price on anything… then throw in an extra dollar for the sales person’s effort.
Don’t…Forget your sunscreen.
While some toiletries, such as shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, may be complimentary at your hotel, sunscreen will not be… and buying it will result in you paying at least double the price of what it costs back home.
Don’t… stay at your resort 24/7.
Cancun and Riviera Maya are home to some of the best excursions. Therefore, a quick day trip could include visiting Xel-Ha or XCARET park, seeing the ancient Mayan Ruins of Tulum, traveling across the ocean to Isla Mujeres, or partying the day away at the Mandala Beach Club (right inside the hotel zone!)
Don’t… be afraid of the local bus.
This low cost transportation option is actually very safe. The local bus allows you to travel within the hotel zone and to downtown Cancun for just $1 USD. Driver’s are friendly and willing to help all tourists get where they are going.
Don’t… eat only food you have tried!
Cancun is home to delicious local dishes. Plus, the chefs receive the best training possible, so they prepare local cuisine in the exact same way someone’s abuela would make it. Try something new, indulge… you’re on vacation! Enjoy yourself.
