Ojai Valley Inn

Very rarely do I fall in love with a property at first sight while traveling. I also am not one to overthink what nature is on a hotel or resort property’s grounds. Sure I like some pretty flowers here and there, but you all know that this girl’s favorite form of nature includes the sand, palm trees, and the ocean.

AS AN AMAZON ASSOCIATE, I EARN FROM QUALIFYING PURCHASES. THIS INCLUDES SALES THROUGH AFFILIATE LINKS THAT ARE LOCATED ON THIS PAGE.

The Ojai Valley Inn is not on the ocean and there’s no sand around. But hey, it does have palm trees… This should give you the impression that the OVI is not for me.

However, within seconds of passing through the gate and entering The Ojai Valley Inn property, I was overwhelmed by the beauty of the flowers and the grass. The surrounding mountains? They make you feel like you are in a fishbowl. It’s California, but I swear I felt like I was in Italy. Maybe your girl is into nature after all…  (I’m just kidding, remember when I actually enjoyed hiking in Los Angeles, Arizona, and Tennessee?) I do actually enjoy the outdoors… I am still just in awe of the beauty of Ojai, so I may exaggerate my dislike of nature a bit.

My friend Patricia said it best, though. “It’s like we’re in a bowl surrounded by mountains” and we really didn’t want to climb out of the bowl…

Guest Rooms

The guest rooms are large and spacious. They feature the most luxurious beds and a giant patio with lounge chairs to relax in the privacy of your own suite. Unfortunately for us, we didn’t have direct sunlight so we had to trek to the pool a few times (by trek I mean walk about four minutes through the beautiful property or hop on a shuttle- it was not a trek and was absolutely SO doable).

A plate of Ojai Pixies, a local citrus fruit, is arranged in each room for guests to enjoy. But my favorite portion of the rooms? A giant soaking tub and a beautiful standing shower in the bathroom. The tub was quite literally big enough to swim laps in. As I enjoyed a long bubble bath, I honestly got confused about how to ensure I didn’t go underwater as the tub is way too big for just one person.

Service at the Ojai Valley Inn

The service was impeccable. From the minute a valet ran up to open my car door upon arrival, to the last second when the valet escorted me to the car at departure, I couldn’t stop fawning over the way employees treated guests. Every single employee was professional, knowledgeable, and just genuinely kind.

Anyone that knows me, knows I’m full of random questions. At the OVI, no question is a stupid question and all of my silly questions about the property were answered with enthusiasm. The valet was even able to tell me why the fire hydrant looked golden! Curious? Comment below and I’ll spill the tea.

I’m a sucker for turndown service… but the details that went into turndown service at OVI are impeccable. Room attendants turn on ambient music, turn off the TV, turn down the lights and draw the shades for you… I literally could go on and on. It was so nice to come back to a room that was neat, tidy, and ready for bed.

Amenities Ojai Valley Inn has to Offer

If you visit their website, Ojai Valley Inn lists all of their amazing amenities, which include a golf course, driving range, spa, a kid-friendly pool, and so much more. However, my three favorite things were The Indigo Pool, Libbey’s Cafe, and the fire pits.

The Indigo Pool

The Indigo Pool is located near the lobby, at the center of the action on the property. This was kind of like the meeting spot for everyone on the property. Everyone that was at the OVI for my friend’s wedding hung out here between activities. With a full menu of drinks and food to choose from, the Inigo Pool is the perfect way to spend the day. A friend of mine even got tacos delivered to him in the water… life doesn’t get much better than that.

Libbey’s Cafe

Libbey’s is a small little cafe, known for its coffee, sandwiches, and ice cream! However, since I am a charcuterie enthusiast, I absolutely adored looking at the things that Libbey’s had for sale. Gorgeous kitchenware, cookbooks, and cheeseboards? My favorite. Plus, the coffee and sandwiches were good too. Every morning I would go for a walk, stop at Libbey’s for coffee, then take a seat at the firepits… which brings me to my absolute favorite amenity.

The Firepits

The firepits at the Ojai Valley Inn are located in front of Libbey’s and Jimmy’s Pub and between The Oak Restaurant and The Indigo Pool. Every firepit has between six to eight comfortable Adirondack chairs around it, with scenic views of the mountains and golf course ahead. This is the perfect place to have morning coffee or wait for your guest room to be ready. If I were to return, I’d love to grab a glass of wine from any of the bars or restaurants on the property and sit by the fire after a long day… My dream is to come back and work on my novel with a glass of wine by the firepit. I’ll work on making that a reality…

Some Fun Facts

The Ojai Valley Inn is an escape for many from Hollywood.  A few weeks before my arrival, a certain billionaire that is the head of Amazon rented out the property. I spotted a celebrity couple on my first day on the property but was too starstruck and delirious from travel to say hello. The stars and wealthy often escape to Ojai for a change of pace from the bustle of LA.

Ojai Valley Inn also is home to a mansion called Casa Escalar on the property. Casa Escalar is where The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills stayed during a season 3 cast trip. When I asked about it, I learned it was very recently remodeled. It can be booked for approximately $10,000 per night. I couldn’t even tell you where the mansion is located, as it is not easily accessible if you aren’t staying in the house.

Would I go back?

Very simply put, in a heartbeat. I loved the Ojai Valley Inn. I’m already planning to celebrate my 30th birthday with a girl’s trip there in 2024. I’m also hoping to take a few days to head out there to work on my novel. I could see it being a beautiful setting for any author to write in, or incorporate into a future book.
