An Open Letter to My Mom

An Open Letter to My Mom

Dear Mom,

First off, Happy Mother’s Day. One day is not enough to celebrate you and everything you do for me (and everyone around you!)

You and dad took me on my first trip, outside of the country, when I was 18 months old. On that trip to the Bahamas, you quickly learned that wherever I went, adventure followed. My 18 month old adventures included a black eye, an obsession with the sharks at Atlantis, and an irrational fear of sand. On that trip, and every moment that followed, you guys did everything possible to make sure I was happy.

I wanted to take time and thank you for everything you have done for me. Posting on Facebook, as I have done in past years on Mother’s Day, didn’t seem like enough. Over the past 22 years, you have literally handed me the world…

You know me better than I know myself… It’s unbelievable to me that you always tell me “no,” exactly when I need to hear it the most. It amazes me how you always support my dreams, even when they do not match up with yours.

Being able to travel is one of the greatest gifts you have ever given me. You introduced me to the world, something that not everyone is lucky enough to experience. I am eternally grateful to you for sharing your love of travel with me.

I hope to one day be as an amazing mother to my children, as you are to me and Robert. I hope I can one day take the world and hand it over to my children, the way you have to me. I hope to share a love and passion for something with my children, the way you shared your passion for travel with me. I pray that I can be as selfless, caring, and hard-working as you are, and one day hand the world back to you.

Mom, today and everyday, you are my hero, my greatest supporter, my favorite travel buddy, my everything. Without you, I would be lost… I would be wandering in circles. You show me the path to everything and everywhere. I love you so much and hope you enjoy the rest of your day.

Love you today, tomorrow, and forever,

Jessica
